# Scan Method
You can scan images into Docufree right from the web browser (IE-only). Scanning requires the use of a TWAIN-compliant device, which is the interface standard that allows scanners to communicate with image processing software.
# Scanning a File
Select the Capture tab. The Capture window appears with the breadcrumb trail defaulted to your inbox.

Select Add File | Capture Center from your Inbox, Files, or the Viewer. The Capture window appears with the selected folder path retained.Select the Scan tab.
If necessary, navigate using the breadcrumb trail to capture the file to a location other than your inbox.
The indexes for the selected folder location appear. Optionally, enter index values.
The document types appear based on the group to which you belong and the location you are accessing. If the group has rights to that location then the document type list is populated. Optionally, select the document type from the drop-down list.
In the Scanning Control Area, a system generated file name displays. You can leave as is or rename the file.
Optionally, select the Auto Document Feed (ADF) option to automatically feed the documents through.

The scanner must support the ADF feature to use this.
- Optionally, select the Duplex option to scan both sides of the documents.

- Optionally, select the Show UI option to show the TWAIN scanner interface screen when scanning. The connected scanner interface opens and allows you to set properties and other settings.
Note
The Show UI setting persists after you logout of Docufree. In other words, if you select the Show UI option then the scanner interface screen will always appear.
Place the document in the scanner and click the Scan button. The document will begin scanning.
The first page of the document will appear in the image viewing area. Determine whether the scan is good.
Best Practice
Take this opportunity to determine whether the scanned pages are in the correct sequence, are straight, and are an acceptable scan.
- If it is a good scan then click Save. If it is not a good scan then click Delete and scan again.
# Scanning Control Area
The scanning control area is a toolbar that contains the following widgets.

Rotate Left | Click to rotate the scanned image to the left. |
Rotate Right | Click to rotate the scanned image to the right. |
Flip Vertically | Click to flip the scanned image vertically. |
Flip Horizontally | Click to flip the scanned image horizontally. |
Page _ of _ | The page number appearing in the scanning viewing area and the total number of pages in the scanned image. |
Refresh | Use to refresh the scanned image page count. |
First page | Takes you to the first page of the scanned image. |
Previous page | Takes you back to the previous page of the scanned image. |
Next page | Takes you to the next page of the scanned image |
Last page | Takes you to the last page of the scanned image. |
Scan | Use to begin scanning the image. |
Delete current page | Use to delete the page currently appearing in the scanning viewing area. |
Select plug-in device | If you have multiple devices on your computer, use to select the scanner to use to scan the image. |
Save scan | Use to save the scanned image. |
ADF | Select the Auto Document Feed option to tell the TWAIN object to automatically feed the documents through. The scanner must support the ADF feature. |
